An Early Intervention Success Story

MEET CONNER :

teli Early Intervention services provided the foundation needed to a child diagnosed with autism, to help him realize his dream to work in health care.

Conner was diagnosed with Autism at age 2 and his brother Dylan diagnosed later, at age 9 with Aspergers, a form of autism. As any parent, Kim and BIll were overwhelmed. When facing the challenge of autism over 10 years ago, Kim and Bill were really pioneers in exploring opportunities to help their child. They found teli shared their pioneering spirit in believing that given the right support, children can reach their fullest potential. When they found teli, they found a kindred spirit. “The staff [at teli] listened to us, heard our concerns, took our suggestions, combined therapies and gave us what every parent wants… HOPE!”

Conner was enrolled in the Early Childhood Education program at teli and received intensive therapy to help with communication skills and socialization. “The staff at teli is called to work with children with special needs, they are the most caring and supportive people, not just for your children but for the parents,” said Kim.”They understand what parents are dealing with and try to understand what will work for the family.” Connor was able to transition into Kindergarten and continued his education, recently graduating from High School and is now studying to become a Certified Nursing Assistant at Commonwealth Technical Institute in Johnstown.PA Conner has always been interested in pursuing a profession in health care. “I always wanted my child to be a contributing member in society,” said Bill, ” and I am proud to say.. He is well on his way!” teli’s work with children helps them realize their dreams, building their foundation for the future.
