Teli Tip – Increasing Oral Motor Skills

increasing oral motor skills-early interventionTry these effective, FUN child speech therapy activities for increasing oral motor skills:

  • Place applesauce, pudding on the child’s lips to have him or her lick it off.
  • Have the child drink from a straw, not a sippy cup.
  • Play silly games during bath time, blow bubbles and pop them! Slide toys down the back of tub and say “wee” or “uh oh!” as they land in the water. Make silly faces at each other, this allows the muscles we use for speech to get exercise. Bath time is a wonderful time for talking because you are in a confined area and the child is face to face with you!
