An Early Intervention Success Story

MEET MORGAN:

When this young infant was not developing like her peers, her parents searched out teli Early intervention to provide her the help she needed.

An insightful young girl with a big heart and a great idea!

THE JOURNEY

A new mom often has lots of questions and concerns. “Why isn’t my baby sitting up like other kids? She is not babbling like other children.. why is that?” Morgan had just turned 6 months and Kim, Morgan’s mother, approached her pediatrician with concerns about her daughter’s developmental delays.  Given that children develop at different rates, they agreed they would keep an eye on things over the next few months. At Morgan’s next check up, Kim happened to see an article in local parenting magazine about Early intervention The description sounded familiar, since her daughter was not walking, or sitting or speaking.  Kim was determined to get Morgan the help that she needed. She spoke with her doctor about getting Early Intervention services.

THE teli IMPACT

After an initial assessment, Kim selected teli to provide Early Intervention services based on their reputation. Morgan’s needs at 18 months of age were extensive and included physical therapy, occupational therapy, developmental therapy and speech therapy. Therapy sessions in their home helped Morgan to progress within her normal surroundings which was a big plus for Kim.

“We had amazing support from the teli therapists who came into our home on a regular basis to work with Morgan. They were so patient and helpful with Morgan! They truly became part of our extended family!”

Within a few months, Morgan’s speech had improved to the point that she was on par for children her age and she was walking with the support of braces specifically designed for her. Much to the delight of her family, Morgan progressed through pre-school and is now in elementary school. Morgan continues to receive Occupational Therapy to help with her fine motor skills such as cutting and writing with her dominant hand.  Kim has the following words of encouragement for other parents:

“I would encourage any parent to take advantage of the teli early intervention services, to address any concerns that you might have. Our family is extremely grateful to the teli therapists for the impact they have made in Morgan!”

MORGAN TODAY

Morgan loves to sing along with Disney songs, enjoys Girl Scouts and excels in math and reading in school.  She also has a passion for helping others! Over the past three summers, with the help of her grandmother Carole, Morgan has had a lemonade stand to raise funds to benefit teli. The idea was “hatched “when Morgan and her mom were reminiscing about her time with her teli therapists when Morgan asked, “How can we help other kids walk like teli helped me? “ A lemonade stand for teli seemed like the perfect plan!  “Morgan has raised more than $600 over the past four years to donate to teli,” notes her grandmother,” and the benefits of teli keep on giving!”
